Gwen joined the JLE in 1976 and enjoyed serving in a variety of roles. Since becoming a sustaining member in 1987, she has served on a number of community boards, including: Prospects Adult Literacy Association, the Edmonton Christmas Bureau, Edmonton Symphony, the Family Centre and CASA, Child, Adolescent and Family Mental Health and the CASA Foundation. Gwen serves as a presiding officer on the City of Edmonton Sub-Division and Development Appeal Board and as a hearing chair for the Insurance Councils Appeal Board of Alberta.

Shabnam is a Financial Service Representative with CIBC. She joined the League in October 2018 to connect with inspiring women and to make a difference in the community. In her free time she loves reading, travelling, trying out new restaurants and watching horror movies. Shabnam loves to plan events, especially ones that are associated with great causes. In the past, she has championed the CIBC Run for the Cure events at her local banking centre.
Michelle joined the Junior League 3 years ago, looking for new opportunities to better serve the community. The League has given her the chance to meet like-minded women, leaders in the community, and provided her with training that she can take into her professional and personal life. In her day job, Michelle works for Stantec Consulting as a Financial Manager. In her spare time, Michelle is usually planning her next vacation, taking in the sights of the city with her husband and one-year old daughter, or taking her two puppies to the dog park.

Jessica joined the Junior League in 2016 looking to connect with women leaders, and has found it to be so much more! Throughout her time with the League she has enjoyed making an impact in the community and building new skill sets. But the highlight has been forming meaningful relationships with league members and community partners, resulting in a deeper connection to the community as a whole. Jessica works as a Relationship Manager for TD Insurance and in her spare time enjoys travelling, trying new restaurants and exploring the outdoors with her husband and dog, Tucker.

Amanda joined the JLE in 2014 on the recommendation of a friend. She knew this was a place she wanted to spend her time when she quickly realized that community, connection and building women leaders was at the core of the organization. Amanda is born and raised in Edmonton, has 2 daughters and is an Independent Consultant & Regional Vice President with Arbonne. Outside of League and her business you’ll find her travelling with her family, cooking, reading, staying active and doing almost anything with a Starbucks!

Phalyn joined the Junior League of Edmonton in 2014 and wasted no time raising her hand for a leadership position. She previously served on our Board of Directors in the roles of Fund Development Director and Membership Director and has been elected as League President for 2020. Having lived in several cities across Western Canada, the Junior League is one of the main reasons why Phalyn feels at home in Edmonton. The League connected her with the community and gave her access to a network of like-minded women, which she now proudly calls friends. Phalyn is self-employed and spends her spare time in the kitchen, planning her next vacation (or 10) and exploring Edmonton.

Fund Development Director
Amanda joined the Junior League of Edmonton in January 2016.
She is a positive and outgoing go-getter that enjoys socializing, event planning, and spending time with family and friends. Amanda is a mom of 3, to a 10-month-old son, Kayden, and two dogs, Luna and Blade. She is a wife to her amazing and talented husband, Kyle, and they have been married for 2 years but together for 10 years. Amanda loves being outdoors, warm weather, traveling,thrill-seeking adventures!
Laurel is an information management professional working for the Government of Alberta. She joined the JLE in 2017 when she moved back to Edmonton after 3 years away. She was excited to find an organization that offered her the opportunity to work with a group of inspiring women and to make a difference in the community. Laurel’s first placement was as the Chair of the New Membership Committee. She is excited to continue working in the Membership area as Director. In addition to her work with the JLE, Laurel is also a passionate labour activist and currently sits on AUPE’s Young Activists Committee.
